Box-office hit!

Crawford, Higgins see PAC box office as perfect naming opportunity

Susie Crawford and Roger Higgins knew immediately that the theatre box office within the Performing Arts Center at Garrett College was their perfect naming opportunity.

“Last night, I was talking with my daughter [Kelley Higgins] about the box office naming,” observed Crawford. “And she said, ‘Every time I can remember us going to the college MeeMaw [Crawford’s mother, the late Garrett College Professor Emeritus Joan Crawford] was passing out programs outside of the box office.”

Roger Higgins noted the important need the new performing arts center will fulfill for the county’s residents.

“It allows the community to enjoy the college even more, which is the essence of a community college,” he said.

Crawford, who is chair of the Garrett College Foundation Board of Directors, noted that her family has long understood the importance of the performing arts in the community.

The PAC is scheduled to open thist spring.

“It’s been at least 40 years that this has been a dream in our community and within our family,” said Crawford. “My mother was instrumental in obtaining the first grant to get GLAF [Garrett Lakes Arts Festival] started and she was very engaged in expanding access to performing arts.”

“I want to thank Susie and Roger for their generous gift to the PAC as well as their longtime commitment to both Garrett College and the dream of a performing arts center in Garrett County,” said Dr. Richard Midcap, Garett College’s president. “They have played a critical role in making this dream come true.”

Cherie Krug, executive director of the Garrett College Foundation, agreed.

“Susie and Roger’s ongoing support of Garrett College through the Garrett College Foundation continues to benefit all Garrett Countians,” said Krug.

The Performing Arts Center at Garrett College is set to open this spring.
